Kawai is a provisional psychologist completing a Master of Clinical Psychology at Charles Darwin University. She is provisionally registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) general and clinical college.
Kawai draws upon evidence-based and trauma-informed cognitive behavioural approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), to create personalised treatment plans to suit individual needs. The foundation of her work is rooted in the significance of cooperation and a profound admiration for the complex life experiences that drive individuals to seek counselling, as well as the transformative process inherent in therapy. She supports individuals in the exploration of their underlying needs, whether it involves managing symptoms in their daily lives or facilitating a journey of self-discovery.
Kawai has experience working with a wide range of presentations, including but not limited to, depression, anxiety, stress, emotional dysregulation, self-esteem, and ineffective coping mechanisms. Kawai is available to see adults, with the option for after-hours sessions.
Kawai conducts sessions in English and can understand Mandarin, Cantonese, and Malay. Having lived in Southeast Asia and the Northern Territory of Australia, Kawai enjoys working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
