Shirlene Jayasundera

Shirlene Jayasundera is a qualified and registered Clinical Psychologist with 27 years of experience working within both public and private mental health services in Victoria. She has Clinical Psychology endorsement with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and is a registered supervisor with the Psychology Board of Australia. Shirlene completed her Masters in Clinical Psychology at the University of Melbourne in 1997. She also has a Bachelor of Applied Science (co-major in Psychology and Psychophysiology), an Honours degree in Arts and Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training from Swinburne University, Hawthorn. Shirlene is a member of the Australian Psychological Society.

Shirlene is an extremely competent Cognitive Behaviour Therapy practitioner specialising in the assessment and treatment of a variety of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, stress, serious mental illness including first episode psychosis, Schizophrenia, Bi-Polar Disorder, Adjustment Disorder, Acute Stress Disorder, trauma and PTSD, grief/loss issues, self-esteem issues, relationship issues and chronic health conditions. She also has an interest in the assessment and treatment of Gender Dysphoria and sexual dysfunction. Shirlene is also approved to provide psychological treatment for NDIS clients.

Shirlene is also trained in ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness-based CBT and Core Conflict Relationship Therapy, working eclectically drawing on these therapies as required. While comfortable working with clients from across the life span, Shirlene has currently chosen to focus working with older adolescents, young people, adults, couples and families. Shirlene has completed Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and uses this therapy intervention to assist couples who may feel stuck in conflictual relationships to move towards resolving conflict better, and moving towards creating shared meaning in their relationships. Shirlene also assists parents with improving their co-parenting strategies. She also appreciates the opportunity to work with couples who are in the early stages of their partnership to support them to lay a foundation that over time will help further establish and grow their relationship.

Shirlene is also an experienced trainer, group facilitator and Psychology Board approved supervisor.

Shirlene is fluent in English and has a working knowledge of Sinhala and Sri Lankan culture.

Shirlene works from our Brandon Park office and is available for appointments during business hours as well as after hours on week day evenings and on Saturdays during the daytime.
