Making high quality mental healthcare accessible for everyone

Tran Nguyen

Tran is a Clinical Psychologist. She has completed her Honours and Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology at RMIT University, after completing a Bachelor of Science at Melbourne University. She has had over 5 years of work experience as a psychologist in various settings including hospital, university and private practice.

Therapeutic interests

The presentations that she is experienced in treating are:

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Mood disorders
  • Trauma, PTSD
  • Grief and loss including breakups
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Low self-esteem
  • Identity/existential crisis
  • Performance issues and perfectionism

Tran uses evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Cognitive Processing Therapy which is designed to treat PTSD (she is a registered CPT provider). In sessions, she brings in useful theories from Psychodynamics, Schema Therapy, Existential Psychology and a strength-based approach in order to understand your relational patterns, deeply held beliefs and individual strengths. She believes that it’s the insight, the therapeutic relationship, the skills, and the human qualities all together that can make a difference in your life and wellbeing.

She works with many people of different cultural backgrounds. She lived in Vietnam, Singapore, Romania, and came to Australia over 12 years ago. Since her knowledge in diversity and cultural issues comes from her own lived experience, she can connect well with migrants and Australians of different ethnicities.

Tran’s therapeutic style is warm and goal-directed. At the heart of what she does lies compassion and a drive for growth. Her personal philosophy is “Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.” (Soren Kierkegaard). If this resonates with you, Tran would love to help you make sense of your past and how you arrive at where you are, and co-create a path for you to live forwards.

Tran works on Thursdays, 12 to 7pm.
