Making high quality mental healthcare accessible for everyone

Vanessa Dantas

I am a Provisional Psychologist with over 12 years of experience working with adults and teenagers (16+). I hold a Bachelor’s and Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology from Paulista University and a Master’s by Research in Clinical Psychology and Culture from the University of Brasilia. I also have specialized training in Gestalt Therapy and academic training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic approaches. Additionally, I hold provisional registration with AHPRA. My experience includes working in counseling and community psychology, as well as lecturing phenomenological psychology to undergraduate students.

My approach is deeply rooted in understanding each person’s unique experience, focusing on cultivating sustained awareness and meaning, rather than just focusing on a diagnosis. Although I am academically trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), my work is more influenced by phenomenological therapies such as Gestalt and existential, as well as psychodynamic approaches. These methods view psychological suffering as a disruption in how we live authentically and connect with the world, allowing for deep exploration of your personal challenges.

I support people dealing with anxiety-producing experiences, depressive symptoms, and trauma, including complex trauma related to difficult childhood experiences. I also work with issues related to personality, identity, self-esteem, and relationships, as well as those dealing with co-dependency and narcissistic abuse. Additionally, I support migrants facing adaptation challenges and trauma, and I work with clients supported by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). I am able to offer therapy in both English and Portuguese.

I am committed to providing inclusive therapy that respects your background, including gender, race, social class, ability, sexual orientation, culture, and migration experiences. I offer both short-term and long-term therapy to help you manage emotional difficulties and improve your mental health.

I am available for consultation in the Reservoir office and via Telehealth, which numerous studies have shown to be just as effective as face-to-face therapy for a wide range of mental health concerns.
